Guaranteed Tournaments:
Guaranteed tournaments are one of the most sought-after poker tournaments among poker players. This is because irrespective of the number of players participating in them, they each offer a guaranteed prize-pool amount. So even if there are not enough players to fund the prize-pool with their buy-ins, we bring it up to the guaranteed amount for you!
You’ll know when a poker tournament is a guaranteed tournament usually just from reading its name. For example, it might be called a “$30,000 Guaranteed”. Otherwise, it’ll be stated in the information field of the tournament’s prize-pool.
Qualifiers:
You can win your entry into one of the large and well-known land-based poker tournaments by winning one of our Qualifier freeroll or satellite tournaments. Earning that entry ticket into the Main Event of the land-based tournament usually requires that you win all the stages of the Qualifier tournament. Some times, you will even need to qualify for the Qualifier by winning smaller poker tournament called “feeders”. Simply read the tournament details and Terms and Conditions to find out what’s involved.
Freerolls:
Depending on their rules, there are 3 kinds of freerolls available:
1.Restricted Cash Freerolls – winners are awarded money. In order to win, players must collect a certain amount of player points and finish in the final freeroll round.
2.Restricted Freeroll Qualifiers – winners are awarded access to bigger tournaments. Sometimes, you might have to fulfill a certain criteria in order to compete, like having a given number of player points.
3.Open Cash Freerolls – to enter these, all you need is basically a William Hill Poker Club account. The player buy-ins fund the cash prize-pool, just like a pot.
Heads-Up:
If you want to play head-on against another single poker player, then Heads-Up poker tournaments are your kind of tournament. They can be played in several ways:
- By competing in cash-games designed especially for Heads-Up poker play.
- By competing in Sit n Go tournaments designed especially for Heads-Up poker play.
- Or by competing in poker tournaments where the winners of each table are matched up with another and defeated until there is only one winner left.
Rebuy/Add on:
Rebuy tournaments allow players to purchase more chips after they have already started competing. This option is available for a certain amount of time into the tournament – generally the first hour – and any player, who has lost all their chips or has equal to or less than the amount of chips they started with, can use it.
All tournaments which offer Rebuy also offer an Add-on option, which allows all players to purchase extra chips once the Rebuy time-frame has passed. It is a once-only offer throughout the tournament, yet is available to anyone no matter how many chips they have.
Freezeout:
Freezeouts are standard poker tournament rules, whereby if players lose all of their chips, then there is no way for them to re-enter the tournament. This basically means that there is no Rebuy or Add-on option available in the poker tournament employing Freezeout rules.
You will find that most poker tournaments have these rules, and for this reason, they are not always explicitly stated, but merely assumed. So unless you are informed otherwise, any poker tournament will naturally employ Freezeout tournament rules.
Turbo / Super Turbo:
In Turbo Poker tournaments, every three minutes the blind levels are increased. This makes the tournament significantly faster, thereby giving the players less time to make decisions or wait around for the cards they need. Sometimes the blind level intervals can be changed, but generally, Turbo Poker tournaments are still very intense.
Just so, in Super Turbo Poker tournaments, the blind levels are increased every minute, making for an extremely high-paced competition.
Speed:
Speed tournaments are Poker tournaments which limit the players to only 15 seconds each time they have to make a move. If the player fails to act before the 15 seconds is up, his/her hand is called out ‘dead’, or if there were no moves made prior to the player’s turn, the hand is checked. Yet Speed tournaments allow players 1 or more time extensions of 30 seconds which they can use when required. With regards to other poker rules, everything is the same as in a standard game.
Double up:
In Double Up tourneys, players who make it to a top 5 or top 3 ranking are awarded double their buy-in amount as prize. The decision to award a double buy-in to either the top 5 or top 3 players is determined according to the initial buy-in amount; if it is higher it will be the top 3 players, whereas if it is lower it will more likely be the top 5 players who are awarded double the buy-in.
Triple up/Winner Takes it All:
If you win a Triple Up or Winner Takes it All Poker tournament, then you will receive the entire prize-pool and not have to share it with any of the other players. The difference between Triple Up and Winner Takes it All tournaments is that in Triple Ups, only 3 players are allowed to compete and in Winner Takes it All tournaments, more than 3 players are allowed to compete. Not for sore losers!
Short stack:
In Short Stack Poker tournaments, players are only allowed to purchase up to a certain amount of chips, such as $100. The limit determined for the chip stack is generally less than the standard amount, which means that the tournament is much more fast-paced than usual. The result is a challenging yet highly exciting poker tournament that is bound to suit all intermediate to advanced players!
Double stack:
In Double Stack Poker tournaments, player are allowed to purchase up to double the amount of the given chip stack. Being the exact opposite of the Short Stack tournament, Double Stacks let players hold higher chip amounts, and they are as a result much longer and relaxed. The Poker play seen in Double Stacks can sometimes also get very interesting.
